Low 70s to Mid 80s: Jacob Sanchez

First meeting

Jacob Sanchez is one of the hardest working people you will ever meet in your life. He’d spent his early high school years in the weight room building his body. When we met, he was already plenty strong enough, so we focused on getting his body as mobile and pliable as possible. This combination of strength and mobility is how we improved his velocity 15mph in less than a year.

Mobility Ability

Jacob hit all the strength metrics that we have here at MadVelo. Relative to his body weight he was one of the strongest high school kids we had ever seen. Yet, when we asked him to perform different animal walks, or common gymnastics, he struggled more than you’d think. So what’s the purpose of being strong in the weight room if it doesn’t allow you to move your body more efficiently in space?

With this in mind, we really started emphasizing animalistic movements: different types of crawling as well as common gymnastic movements: such as handstands.

The changes were pretty astounding. Not only was he moving smoother and faster on the field, but much of the pain and soreness he’d have throwing had greatly dissipated. Returning his body to a more natural and instinctual means of movement proved better in all aspects of his athletic performance.

All these changes in his mobility and how his body move resulted in a life time PR! Watch the magic happen below.

Summary

Sanchez is proof that you need to be strong in baseball, but just strong enough. Chasing heavier and heavier numbers in the weight room is cool but at a certain point becomes detrimental to performing on the diamond. Athletic performance greatly relies on how an athlete can move their body in space. Make sure what you spend your time doing off the field is positively impacting what you are trying to do on the field.
